Want a functional way to store your throw blankets? Learn how to make this easy rustic DIY Wood Blanket Ladder that will give your home a Modern Farmhouse feel with dowels.

This DIY Wood Blanket Ladder project took less than 30 minutes and barely put a dent on our budget! This tutorial includes measurements and will guide you on how to make this easy angled decorative ladder.

If you are like me and love to change decorations around for no rhyme or reason then this is a perfect addition to your home.

This is how you can make your own wood ladder...

Supplies:

  • 2-1x4x8 common boards
  • 3- 1x48" wood round dowels
  • Stain ( we used a stain and poly mix in dark walnut)
  • 3" wood nails
  • 150 grit sandpaper
  • Wood glue

Tools:

  • Miter saw
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Hammer

Step 1: Cut the wood

Cut a 10° degree angle on one end of each of the common boards using the miter saw. This will allows the ladder to lean against the wall safely once finished.

Cut each dowel in 1/2 - making a total of 6-24inch pieces.

Step 2: Plan placement of dowels...

Lay the common boards on a flat surface. Make the first mark at 17 inches from the side you previously cut the 10° angle on. Proceed to make 5 more marks at 12 inches apart. Repeat on both boards.

Step 3: Use a drill bit to create 6 circular inserts on each board...

This makes the assembly easier and allows for the dowels to have extra support.

Step 4: Assemble...

Lay one common board with the circular insert facing up and apply wood glue. Place a dowel in each insert. Continue to add glue at the opposite ends of the dowels. Next, align the second common board with the dowels. Insert the dowels into the circular inserts. Then insert a wood nail on the opposite side to attach the dowels to boards.

Step 5: Sand and stain...

Sand lightly using 150 grit sandpaper. Then, apply the stain and let it dry.

Step 6: Decorate and Enjoy your new Blanket Ladder!

I have used this DIY wooden decorative ladder in various rooms around the house, and it never fails to amaze me! We are currently enjoying it next to our  DIY shiplap wall and  DIY faux beam  mantel.
