You can use chalk paint for your paint with little or no prep. Once you have it painted you can distress it and/or use a clear wax followed by a dark wax to antique it.
Would you consider using chalk paint?
I favor the Rustoleum products, their products and support are fabulous. Perhaps it might be available in a color —that you like? https://

Rocking Chair Makeover: Chalked Paint and Upholstery
Hi ! This calls for chalk paint !!!!! So easy to use , and best of all no sanding or primer needed ! Just clean the desk well , I recommend using a de greaser by Krud Kutter . Then paint on your choice of color with chalk paint , use 1or 2 coats . Then use sealing wax in antique finish . This will protect your work & give it that antique look !
the wax goes on like a stain you wipe or brush it on , then wipe it off , it will darken all the crevices and give it an aged look. It dries to a hard finish, not waxy . Have fun !
Hi Terrise. There's a brand new paint product on the market. It's called Beyond Paint. This paint completely eliminates the need for sanding and/or sealing. It's easy to use but you will pay dearly for the convenience of less work. Home Depot sells it for $49 a quart.
Thank you!!
