How do I make favors for a 90 year old birthday celebration?

My mother in law will be 90 in a couple of weeks and recently had some health issues that won't allow us to take her to a nice restaurant for her birthday. Now everyone is coming here and I feel the need to have favors for people to take home and to have decorations which I am not crafty at all,,,, HELP

I have a sweet tooth so I’ve always been a fan of candy and pretzels and gum for favors. If you have the space you could let guests make their own bag - a candy buffet? You just have to buy the supplies. And it’s a fun activity for folks. Search for “candy buffet” on Pinterest. Maybe a few sugar free options for diabetics. Personally for decorations I’d just go simple an elegant with a Happy Birthday banner and a few bouquets of flowers around the house. You could chose people at the end of the party (or use as additional party favors for special guests) to take the flowers. Good luck - hope this spurs some more ideas for you.

This could work for a 90th birthday. It does say "100 Grand" on the candy bars but still a good simple idea!

    Deb,

We just had my mother's 90th at our house. We limited the number of people to just the local family and a few of her closest friends still living. (Some of which had to come with a younger person who could drive them.) My mom is a widow who never remarried. We let my mother have input as to what we served (it was a luncheon). We had people bring old picture albums with pictures of my mom and dad. We did not feel any need for favors and we decorated with pictures of family and friends spanning her lifetime as well as her favorite flowers. We arranged a phone call from a dear friend who lives in another country that we put on speaker phone, which she loved. it was a wonderful time just hearing her peers tell stories and recount memories of their lives long ago. The party was only a few hours and seemed just right. Hope this helps and God bless your mother in law. You are a good daughter in law.

The Dollar Tree has wonderful coordinated decorations for parties. Hosting a gathering with a veggie tray, a cheese tray, cracker/chips and perhaps little sandwiches with a colorful cake (plus candles) and beverages is enough.

If if the celebration is the time of day when people do not usually eat-then cake, nuts and beverages are acceptable. Let everyone visit with your mother and each other. Other activities are not required.

Most people have too many things and do not need favors from a party. A nice picture of your mom with one of her favorite sayings will be a nice take away memory for your guests.

Deb....What are her favorites? My husband's aunt had her 90th this summer in the fellowship hall of the church. She loves cake (her daughter made a special small one for her) and cup cakes for guests. She also loves homemade ice cream so they had that. It was a fun time with pictures of her as young girl with family, to her marriage and children up to the present time. They did not have anything for guests but you can order small drawstring bag (can also make) and add a few candy kisses to the bag with a little card attached that might say " So SWEET that you came". Put them in a basket and have a book for all to sign and maybe another basket for cards plus a place for gifts unless you specify none. Just have fun and decorate in her favor colors!
