Hello Stephen! Your best option should be to have a licensed electrician come in and give your electrical situation a look to see what can be done. You may have some old wiring that needs attention first. For the most part this is a job best left to professionals to do correctly and safely so you won't have any electrical fire issues to be concerned about.

    Stephen,

It is unclear from your posts how the fuses are being used. It sounds like your kitchen is still using fuses instead of breakers. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Fuses do not use more power per se and can provide better protection because they are more sensitive to overload. The real question is, are the number, type, and size (amperage) of the fuses appropriate for how you use the kitchen? Have an electrician evaluate it for you. It may be fine the way it is.

Many insurance companies won't even insure you these days with fuse panel construction and insist on an update for breaker boxes. Have yours updated to all breakers. I don't understand why you have both unless any new wiring was put on breakers and the original fuse box was installed when the house was built. Have the fuse box wiring transferred to the breaker box.
