How do I make a lampshade?

I want to make new or modified lampshades for my room. What fabrics to use that won't discolor or burn by the lightbulb being on. Can I glue a new fabric or wallpaper print to my current shade that is in good shape but has a few spots/marks on it? I basically want white with a large turquoise trellis design to match my turquoise sofa.

I see many lampshades made on these sites but I really worry about fire with many of these shades...My only advise would be tomato sure it wont catch on fire..
