How can I pull up carpet and replace it with inexpensive flooring?

Wear gloves, start in a corner, pull hard...cut it into sections , about 3ft. Wide to make small easy to carry roles... if there’s padding it will be stapled down, just pull it up in chunks. The edges of the room will have carpet grip sticks (I call them) Get a staple remover or use a flathead screwdriver and hammer, also some tweezers to remove the staples, (there will be a lot of them), and the carpet strips...Easy to do but takes a bit of time to get all the staples out of the floor.

  Not sure, eventually wood but need to get something in place prior to holidays. Not too expensive but nice.

  "Not too expensive but nice" doesn't exist in my neighborhood. How many rooms are you doing? I would go with either sheet or plank vinyl to get you through the holidays. And to cozy it up some inexpensive rugs strategically placed. Shop your local flooring stores and see what they have that is discontinued and at a deep discount. I would also consider tossing back down some really cheap carpet as sometimes you can get that for pennies on the dollar. I just did that for one area in my ex husbands house in the den.

Hi Angela, you can grab peel and stick vinyl tiles, they are easy to work with and you just snap a chalk line to start the first row to stay straight when applying them.
