As far as paint goes, there’s mildew-resistant paint you can buy. I don’t think you’ll find it in hardware centers. Probably need to go to a paint store where that’s all they sell. It’s also available online.

Prime it. And paint it using a paint designed for Kitchen and Bath. It will hold up against all the moisture in a bathroom. :)
