Can you help me plan out this living room wall?

I plan on mounting the tv up a little farther and then getting a big family picture above the tv. Thoughts?

Hi Allie, you have a great plan, it is important that the pictures match each other in height and one above the tv should look okay as long as it is centered properly above the tv.

I think I would hang the two pictures and the TV so they are all at the same height first. I am not sure that adding another picture over the top will look good. I would wait to make that decision once you hang these first three items.

  • I personally think that will be a bit too much for one wall. The tv and a smaller picture each side will look nice.

  • I wouldn't hang a picture above the TV, keep it simple.

I agree with Anita, too busy with the oversized pics on either side. Less is more.

Hi, Allie. I assume you already have the third family picture to go between the two you are holding up in the photo? Then I would leave the tv on the stand and center that large photo above the tv, and flank it with the two you are holding up, but lower them a little (don't have the two on the sides the same height as the center one. Come down with them about 8"). As soon as you can afford to, purchase a tall unit that will house the tv and flank it with the two side pictures. Then put the center picture over the sofa or on another wall.

Picture on each side of the TV is fine. Picture above the TV would be too much. Maybe something "lighter" like a wreath or a decorative wall clock.

If you put the third picture up the wall is going to look too crowded. I would also paint the TV stand a darker color. Hang the third picture somewhere else.

Hang the TV centered between the two pictures. I would not hang a third picture above this grouping. If you feel it needs something else, use a large clock or wreath as others have suggested or something long and narrow that can be hung horizontally above the whole grouping that acts like a top "frame". Consider something like a simple ladder or a boat paddle--something that won't compete with your TV and pictures.
