How can I get rid of the sap from my fresh pinecones?

Question

I soaked my fresh pinecones, in a mixture of dish soap, and bleach, overnight. Then, I rinsed them well-- but, they ARE STILL STICKY!! HELP!? Does anyone know what to do!?

You can get white vinegar very inexpensively at any warehouse store or restaurant supply. I pay $3.49 for 2 gallons.

Hi Deb, sorry you are having to deal with sticky pine cones. Hope this will help you. Using rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip, you can clean any really dirty or gross spots on the cones. Fill up your 5 gal bucket with HOT water about 1/2 way full. Then add 2 cups of vinegar making a 1 cup to 1 gal solution. Vinegar will kill any bugs that are living inside the cones, and will get rid of the sap residue.Nov 29, 2016
