    Hi Helen,

There are a lot of different materials that you can use for a backsplash. I think the issue is matching your countertop. Personally, I don't think you should try to match the color. Rather I'd do something in gray's with a little bit of a pinkish hue if you like. If you like the idea of a faux brick, here's a tutorial I found. I'd use white, black gray, and a soft pink if you want to bring the pink into the backsplash. Just remember that no brick is all one color, so you could do a gray brick with lighter gray (add gray with white), as softer black (add black to white) and a few faux "veins" on some of the bricks. Use a damp sponge to blend in the colors so that it doesn't look fake. This Hometalk member did her's in colors that worked for her kitchen but her method could be helpful for you. I hope this helps. Wishing you the best.

Hi Helen. I think a brick back splash would look nice with rose counter tops. I also think a mirror back splash is wonderful. Good luck Helen.

    Hello Helen,

If you have an offcut of the top or a photograph that shows true colour, take that with you when looking... good luck!

I would suggest going to you local home improvement store and getting samples of what type of backsplash you are trying to achieve. Set them on you countertop and look at them for a couple days to see how you like it, before you commit to the project. Then, once you have decided on your colors, your material, and how you want it to look go from there. Remember, that lighting plays an important role in how the color plays off the surfaces in your home. It also depends what type of style you are trying to achieve. Education is the key to finding the solution!
