Another method I have used is to fill a gallon pail with hot water, not so hot as to melt your wax ring and cause a leak under the bowl. Then pour from several feet above the bowl directly into the area where the water exits the bowl. This forces the clog to move down and hopefully out, repeat if needed.
Additionally, never put paper towels down your toilet unless you want to have another real hearty clog.
No solution, just plain kitchen soap. Buy cheap...you only need slippery to unclog. Rare that you even have to grab the plunger but if you do, it’s an easier job because of the soap.
