How can I make a mirrored wall unit from bookcases?

use three cheap bookcases to make a wall unit with mirrored doors? I’d like to insert mirrors or use mirror paint on glass inserts on doors. I want to paint the cheap bookcases. Can I attach hardware to the cheap wood without splitting?

Do the bookcases already have glass doors? If so aren't there already hardware on the doors and bookcase?

If they are just wood film over chip board it may not be stable enough to hold doors with mirrors. They are heavy.

    Hi Jennifer,

If it is chipboard (wood chips stuck together with a glue) then I doubt it, due to weight of glass doors. might be an idea to fit a grooved track to hold sliding doors. This might mean you will have to fit a slightly larger top and bottom to take them or if you can try to fit to existing carcas.............Good luck!

Hi Jennifer. If you're concerned about cheap wood splitting, you could try to drill pilot holes first. Mirror furniture is very "in" right now. A lot of people are buying mirrors from Dollar Tree and using a strong adhesive to mount them (E6000 or Gorilla Glue are strong enough) on furniture. Using mirror paint would work too. Good luck Jennifer.
