How do I finish a raw Balsa wood food serving tray so it is food-safe?

Hi. If you are wanting to give it a protective coating but not change the look of the wood I love Miss Mustard Seed (or Homestead House) Hemp Oil. It is food grade safe, nourishes the wood and will cure into a nice protective finish on the wood. I would give it a coat and wait a day or two and then rub on another coat.

Mineral oil is what’s been used for many decades.
