How do I care for my astilbe plants in my house?
I ordered astilbe plants from Michigan Bulb Co. to be planted in fall, well when they arrived it was to cold to plant them in my garden, I live in Minnesota. I planted them in a planter, now that they are growing they are getting about 4-5 inches tall, I thinking they will be just be tall and thin-punie looking and not the way they are suppose to grow when outside, what do I do- any sugestions? thanks for your help.
Hi Irma, sorry you did not get your plants out in time. Hope this is helpful Can you grow astilbe indoors?
If potting a flowering plant to bring indoors or to give as a gift plant, start with a good quality, commercial potting soil. These are usually lighter in weight than topsoil, sterile and pest-free. ... Insert the plant into the hole and press soil firmly around the roots and just covering the root ball.

If you set a small fan on low to blow on your plants it will help them grow stronger stems. It simulates the wind they would experience outside. It’s a trick we use in the greenhouse.
Use heavy pottery with a drainage tray, proper indoor potting soil, watering weekly. I like to use water-soluble flower fertilizer, once a month.
