Of course you can paint your d.r. furniture but since it is so close to the l.r. furniture and since that is darker than d.r. furn, a much lighter shade would IMHO be inappropriate. Plus it would be difficult to paint around the rush without getting paint on it and since the rush is layered such paint might be difficult to remove. In other words IMHO it looks better as is than it would painted.
What color(s) would you recommend? I agree with you on the much lighter color. Very light seems shabby chic which I am not a fan of. You’re spot on about going dark because the sofa and flooring. Would you recommend like a driftwood or gray?

I totally agree with Emily. You have a beautiful DR table. If you have scratches, just get some Old English Scratch cover.
