My puppy had some fun while I was distracted. I have no idea how to repair these? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dorian, here's a great tutorial that will show you how to repair those upholstery buttons - http://schoolofdecorating.com/2012/04/fixing-popped-upholstery-buttons/

  • If you snip them off you can attach new ones

I would advise against snipping the button backings off unless you are sure that the thread holding them in place does not also go through to the cushion back, or inside the stuffing, creating the indentation. If the tension created by this stiff (upholstery) thread no longer exists in the cushion, it will feel looser and the shape will be different.

Thank you, I can see exactly what you mean. I actually have a bunch of leather scraps I can use. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

    Hello there,

Have you thought to try Saddle Soap on them and the rest of the leather too.

Yes, I conditioned the sofa two years ago and it’s definitely due for another round. I don’t think that will help with the buttons which are gone but will do it for what is still in tact. Thanks

Hello again, Sorry did not see the buttons at the bottom for some reason. Buy more snap together button shapes from Craft Store or Upholstery store, or online. If you measure the button back and get the same size you will be able to just push them on when recovered. (What about a contrast to Pop!)

Thanks. I might have to try that if I can’t match the leather. Thanks again for the suggestions.

    Hello again Dorian,

Check for spare leather under the base and around the frame internally!
