How can I clean an ink stain out of a cotton/polyester sweatshirt?

Tried vanish but some still remains and it decolored the fabric a bit.

If you haven't washed it. An old seamstress trick is to spray aerosol hairspray and watch it disappear!
Certainly hope you mean Vanish cleaner not varnish. Try alcohol and a paper towel under it. Daub the top with a clean paper towel to absorb the ink.
