    Since we don’t know what condition it is in, I will offer general advice.

    If the metal is badly rusted, you’ll need to use naval jelly on it, which is messy and requires gloves.

    Most people use spray paint for the finished coats after cleaning it.

    The insides are often papered with wall paper or shelf lining paper. This is tedious and takes planning.

    It depends on the shape of the trunk. You can clean the metal with Brasso, wiping the interior and exterior with white vinegar, then see how it looks. You might be able to seal it at that point.
