I have seen them painted with decals or designs painted on them.
If they are sturdy, you can fix them so they don't fold. Then use then as small tables.

Hi ! Gift them ! Find things of interest that the person likes and find paper goods that relate to it . Examples of they like flowers or gardening find floral wrapping paper or seed packets , pages from a gardening catalog . If they like to travel , use maps ...If they like music use sheet music , you get the idea . Then mod podge the paper in collage style onto the tray !
