Almost any cooking oil will give moisture to wood and make it look better. It won't repair it if there are gouges or broken pieces, but it will improve the look and also help hide scratches. Wishing you the best with your project.
I would never use cooking oil. Not made for furniture. Turns sticky and can become rancid.
