Hoping a licensed roofer that understands the Florida slate roof tiles can tell me how difficult it is to cute a hole in the lanai roof and thru the tiles to put a BBQ (Natural Gas) vent to connect to the vent hood piping.

  • Easy, check with your local permit department to follow local code and comply with fire regulations. Any licensed roofer can provide an estimate or tips. Flip through the yellow pages, Google or use Home Advisor or similar type site to find pros in your area.

Not at all an easy project and regardless of the professional, you could end up with leaks around it.

1.) slate roof. 2.) Florida Hurricane Building Codes.3.) flashing.

If you’re expecting free advice on something this technically complicated, my free advice as a 30 year professional architecture, is to research the building codes.

The Codes are called the international residential code, also known as the IRC.

You should know that each individual city or county has the right to go back to the 2015 IRC or use the 2018 IRC. That is up to your local jurisdiction.

Thank you all. I am having a VENT and cabinets built around my grill under my lanai, though am afraid the hardest part of it all is connecting the vent to to exhaust out the roof. (I KNOW we have a plethora of VENTS built thru the roof from the builder, soi I assume a Florida licensed contractor will know how to cut the hole in the roof and secure it.) Sounds like a risk though. ????
