Do the curtains look right hung so high up?

Hello, I hung new curtains this weekend. I hung the rod high up which I read makes the room feel bigger. It definitely makes the room feel bigger, but I feel like they don't look right. Any suggestions on how to improve them? I attached before and after pictures. The new curtains are the white ones. Thanks.

Hi Trish, I think you did a beautiful job. The only picture I see is the one with your adorable dog being comfortable on the couch. You could use contrasting tie backs, or at least try it, but I think you did a great job.

I like the new curtains but feel they are a little long so use tie backs or brackets to pull them back good luck

What you could do is add bamboo roll ups underneath. They’d fill in the gap between the rod and window, add texture, and make the window look even bigger!

    you're doing a beautiful job! :)

If you can order a valance to go with your panels that would be helpful in hiding that space above the window. Because your rod is now higher your valance will be higher and you won't be blocking as much light as you were when you had your rod lower. I moved my rods higher like you did and I find that I am just not fond of that space between the rod and the top of the window frame. It takes some getting used to! I find that I like curtain panels with a grommet top on higher rods. I don't know why! It just must be more visually appealing to me!

  • First of all, I love your dog! And I think you did a fantastic job! What is it you don't care for?

You just need to get used to the new look. They look great!

It looks fine, a new look for your window with different curtains!

On our patio door we had the same effect of the insulated drapes touching the floor and then some, personally I like the look of it, that little bit of excess gave it a plusher feel.

Very common to do. It does make it bigger. You did it correctly. You’re just not used to it. I did this in my last home and it took a few days or weeks to get used to it. No worries!

The curtains are hung correctly to make your room and window feel larger. I would hem the curtains, with iron on tape. They are not hanging correctly and that makes them look uneven. I love the idea of a bamboo shade hung high inbetween to cover the gap, or get a valance.

I like the new curtains. Your right they definitely make the room feel bigger. I wonder how you thought of hanging them so high. I wish I would have thought of it when I was panting and redoing my house. They don't look uneven, I think your use to a valence. The space where the ceiling meets the window needs a little something. I was going to say hang a regular straight rod for a valence but it may show unless you hang the valence all the way across the whole window. The way you had it before, which I liked,, by the way. You can pick up toppers cheap, if your tired of your old ones. Anyway Good Job. Live with it and I'm sure you will come up with some thing. You very creative to think of hanging them like that. I know it will come to you. Good Luck and thanks for sharing that tip with us.

It looks good. All you need is a valance with same fabric in between the curtains.

The height is perfect, but they do need hemming. I also think you should just use iron on hemming tape. Have them just barely clear the floor and it will dramatically change the look and I think you will love it.

Thanks, I'm definitely going to hem them. Probably can't tell in the picture but I hemmed one side (the side opposite of the lamp) but it ended up still being too long. I'm gonna take a few more inches off. Yesterday I pinned them to the height of just barely above the floor to see how it looks and it definitely looks way better, I just have to iron on the hemming tape now.

I think it looks fantastic, gives a bigger feel to the window!! however, i feel something is missing because wall is exposed- perhaps a valance, a sign , ie. Letters monogram, family etc. Or photos . Its depends on rest of room what can go there that ties in the new look!! Kudos on the idea would love to see how you choose to complete!! Happy designing!!
