How to Clean Your Refrigerator

It was scary to try to remember the last time I really cleaned my fridge. Yes, I do occasionally throw out the old stuff, but it had been a while since the refrigerator had a good cleaning.

To be healthier and save money, we prepare and cook a lot of food at home. I've also got two boys ages 11 and 13, so the refrigerator gets a lot of use and abuse. Bags, bottles, and containers are not always closed correctly if they are actually returned to the refrigerator.

I wanted to figure out a good, easy way to clean my fridge.

It's important to really pay attention to the cleaning products you are using. I prefer to use green and natural cleaning products so that I don't get chemicals on our food.

For the complete process with an easy step-by-step tutorial check out my blog post, How to Clean a Scary, Messy Refrigerator.

Start by completely emptying the refrigerator.

Then, wipe down the shelves with a cleaner of your choice and a cloth or clean sponge.

Be sure to wipe down the shelves, drawers, inside the refrigerator, and the other contents of the fridge such as bottles, containers, and cans.

Once everything is dry, return all of the contents to the fridge.

Then, wipe down the outside of the refrigerator too. You can read about my preferred products for cleaning the outside of the fridge on the blog post.

Now, you have a clean fridge, so you can sit back and relax for just a little bit... until your kids get back home from school.
