I'd try command hooks with the removable adhesive. I've had really good luck with them not leaving anything behind but really holding up.

Either Command Hooks or Command Strips, I would tend more toward the hooks.

We use cup hooks that screw into door frame edge.

I have three nails above the door (each side of the door and the middle) Then I just drape the garland over the nails. You can add a piece of wire to hold it, but mine stays without anything.

Any of the above will work great. Seems I've used all three on different doors depending on what I've had on hand
