Can I make a shiplap ceiling using 6" strips of plywood?

Can you use 1/4” plywood. Cut in 6” strips to make a shiplap ceiling?

    Yes. Just follow the same instructions you would for a wall. Install perpendicular to the studs. Locate your ceiling joists first so you are nailing into ceiling joists/studs. I would sand, prime, and give the strips one coat of paint before I put it up. Add more coats of paint after you get it up. Fill in any nail holes first, sand smooth, then add more coats of paint. You will have to consider some trim around the perimeter of your ceiling. It will make it look more finished and hide any discrepancies.

    Thank you, the people that had the house before. Just took drywall mud and put it all over the ceilings. Not a good look. Just trying to find something affordable enough to make it look better.

    There are also surface mounted ceiling tiles that are beautiful architecturally and also are sound attenuating. I've seen them at menards
