Should I paint over the wallpaper in my mobile home or remove it?

Most walls in mobile and modular homes are factory installed panels. If you walls are drywall best to remove it. If the walls are the panels with seam strips every four feet the your best bet is to paint over.

Hi Christine, we have done this in the past. We washed down the walls with a good soapy cleaner like Dawn dishsoap and warm water, then primed with Kilz aroma-free primer paint, then painted the color we wanted. Hope this helps.

You could paint but it needs to be primed first. Pay attention to wall imperfection. Wall paper hides them better then paint

Hi Christine, be sure the area is extremely clean and no greasy residue is left on the surface. Use a good stain-blocking primer and then paint. Since the wall covering appears to have some texture along with the design, that texture is still likely to appear even though you've painted unless you add some type of "spackle" finish that you then knock down to a smooth surface. Paint, indeed, will make a big change in decor to your area.

I agree with Laura and DesertRose, Wash down, paint with Kilz then paint any color as desired. Use a good quality paint like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. The better the paint the fewer coats you’ll need to cover the pattern in the paperboard.

Unless you are good with wallpapering I would paint the walls. Use a good latex paint not Home Depot or Lowes paint it is too thin. If you know how to wallpaper you could put a second layer on top if the seams are in good condition.

If you take off the wallpaper, use a paper tiger to score the old paper. Spray the wallpaper with 1/2 and 1/2 Downey Fabric softener and water. Let sit for approximately 1-15 minutes use a plastic scraper and the paper will come right off.

Well I would normally say Strip the walls if the paper is damaged, but in a Mobile Home where the walls are not thick if you need more insulation put a thick Wallpaper or foam backed paper over the top to help with that problem. If you dont have the problem then just paint the walls in a colour you can live with .

We live in a very old house and there's wallpaper under almost all the walls. If the paper is in decent condition and the seams aren't coming up, you should have no trouble painting it. But I usually recommend a flat wall paint that will hide any imperfections.

Remove it and start with a clean surface.

If it is in very good condition you can clean the wall down and then use a good primer to sort of seal it and paint with a good matt paint since all glossy paints maginify boo boos.

Hi Christin, I would paint over them, I like the pattern in them as well because it's very forgiving with dents and scratches, etc. Just be sure to put a layer of primer like Kils over it first.

If it's not lifting, you can paint over it.

Remove it! You will never be happy with the finished look if you don't! Mind you, you could put a thick sculptured wallpaper over it and then when you get fed up with it, paint it?

If it’s a panel, you might only be able to paint them. You could cover over them with another panel material. Otherwise for the best results, removing wallpaper is the right way to go.

Hi Christine: I'd paint over it, but first I'd fill in any holes and sand down any lumps. You will still have the ridges that are there in the paneling, however. If it is, indeed, wallpaper, you can remove it before painting.

Are you sure this is wall paper? If it is wall paper I would remove it simply because you will get a better finished result with a smooth clean surface.

I've done both. If it's not textured, I would paint it.
