How do I make a ribbon garland?

I want to make a garland out of ribbon meaning pieces of ribbon tied to something. What to use for the center? How big pieces of ribbon? I saw it s a craft show...should've went back to look...well....its been bugging me since I saw it.

How about a bow?
Molly...I have seen it tied to a string of lights using Christmas material cut or torn in strips. I would cut them in 5 inch strips and about an inch wide. They were just tied on the string between the lights. I hope this will help.
