Yes, we trim ours down each fall. They can also be trimmed again before the spring growth. Check local nursery for recommendations in your area - and for specific type of roses.
Hi Cynthia, yes they do well if pruned, it will increase the bushiness of the bush and enhance new growth and more blooms.

I trim mine back to about a foot to 18 inches from the ground.
