How can I fix a minor imperfection in a staining project?

I recently stained this table and there was a minor imperfection where it got bumped or something I don’t know what happened, but the finish was disturbed after I put up on the polycric top coat so I tried to sand off the small portion where it was and restrain it and it only made it worse! Help! Do i have to start all over?

Photo doesn't show the imperfection and how it looks now or how large it is.

Truly, sometimes you can blend in a repair and sometimes you can't. A close-up of the area would give a better idea. Most of the time, if an area really bothers me, I will strip it down and redo it. I'm not sure why you sanded, without knowing what it is/was. Sometimes going over the whole top with steel wool takes it down enough to smooth it out.
