You can make your own chalk paint with 2 Tbsp calcium carbonate and 1 Tbsp water to 8 oz paint. I like to mix it with glossy paint for a slight sheen. Apply it as you would any other paint, I recommend a light sand and wipe down first.
The beauty of using chalk paint is the simplicity of painting as well as the look. Remove the hardware and just paint... You may need 2 coats depending on the look.
