Try chalk paint. I made mine using 1 cup paint, 1/3 cup each of plaster of Paris and water. Clean cabinets well removing all grease. No sanding or prep besides cleaning necessary. No brush strokes show but might need more than one coat to cover. Dried in 30 minutes. Wait a day then apply polyurethane. You can pick any color of paint.
