Can I tile over a hardwood counter top?
I have a "butcher block" counter top and I hate it. At least I hate the part that goes around the sink. It is always damp and I'm afraid it will rot. Can I tile over the wood counter top?I have tile and I know how to lay it. I just don't know if I would be shooting myself in the foot, so to speak, if I put the tile directly on the wood. There is already a tile backsplash behind the counter.

How can I remove faux granite paint from countertop?
Sure you can. You will have to spread a layer of mastic on the butcher block before setting tiles in place. That will totally seal off the butcher block from anything getting through.
Turn it into a Hometalk project so we can all see it!
You should use cement backerboard otherwise it could warp the wood.
Yes you can. You would need to use mastic and not thinset. Thinset will not hold to wood. Way before cement board was available plywood underlayment was use to lay tile.
