HOstas are so easy to divide. They are extremely hardy. Just kind of chop thru to the bottom of the plant and pull out a piece. As long as there is a little root it will take. I split mine so many times when they get too big.
You just divide them. Very easy to do in Spring.
I have many hostas and they are so easy to divide. I usually do it in the spring just after they start coming up so I can see them, but I've divided them in the middle of summer and they've been fine. They are very tough. Just use a shovel and cut out a piece. Once transplanted it's important to keep them watered until they are well established.
Dig up an divide. They have to be divided by the tubers (bulbs) a leaf cutting won't work
YUUP. Cuttings won't work. They grow from tubers. Just dig it out, divide with a sharp knife, shovel, or spade.
You can divide them anytime but best in spring when the shoots first appear and they look like pencils.
