Can you give me advice on building a faux mantle?
Work in progress I bought gray tile put felt on bottom so not scratch wood floors, next wood box will be painted white than subway peel and stick tle to top . The little electric fireplace blows heat from bottom from sides, top and back does to get warm.My question I have a birch piece of wood 39 inches length. My thought to have mantle I dont have tools to attach wood shelf to wall. The wood would painted white it actually fits on top. Then perhaps add small plant and candles . I haven't removed brackets yet Thoughts ?

If it's blowing air from the top then that could be a problem. Check the instructions to see if you can put anything on top of it.
Heat blows out the bottom
Have you checked with your insurance first? Many different groups require different things from their customers.
No need to call insurance. Don't put the wood right on top. Get four bricks on each corner of the stove and then the wood on top. Less chance of the wood getting scorched and/or possibly drying out and catching fire.
You could mount a floating shelf on the wall above the fireplace. You will need these basic tools though: a stud finder, and screwdrivers. If you do not have any screwdrivers already, my recommendation is to purchase an all-in-one set, also called a multi-bit screwdriver, with magnetic tips. That way you will be ready with all the different tips for basic household maintenance and decorating.

I think that shelf is too big for that small fireplace. I would make it smaller and use bricks underneath so not to cause a fire.
.Would paint the box black so the whole looks more like a unit. Think your shelf is too long for the heater. I'd make the base out of fireproof tile or brick.
Project completed thanks for the ideas
