How can I paint a black cheap wood dresser?
I want to paint my daughters dresser, but it’s cheap wood, from Rooms to Go. It’s black and has a sheen to it. Do I need special paint? I don’t think cheap wood like this can be stripped.

I do not know what the finish is, but it is wood. I was purchased several year ago by my mother
You'll need to lightly sand it, then coat it with a primer, and then you can use chalk paint. I have done a few different pieces myself and here's a link for you to browse through the different techniques I've used. https://chascrazycreations.com/diys/re-purpose-up-cycle/furniture/
A light sand is a great idea. Use Dixie Belle's Slick Stick (it's designed to go over slick surfaces and will help paint adhere) then pick a chalk or mineral based paint color to go over that!
Sand it, prime it, and paint it!
Yes, see other comments.
They are all giving you great advice. All I would add is to wipe it down well with a damp microfiber cloth after scuffling the finish with a sanding sponge.
Lucky Home Today has you taken care of with a great answer!
I would use a primer first.
