Vintage School Desk Redo

I had this vintage school desk way back before I even started school. My family got it when one of the local schools was closing down, and my dad fixed it up a little. Of course, I added a bunch of cool stickers, scribbles and other kid graffiti. Over time it got really beat up and eventually wound up in my parents' storage shed. They were going to toss it, but now I have a daughter who can use it, and I knew I could fix it up!
This is how the desk looked when it came to our home. It was originally made in the 1940s or 50s, and the top had been covered in laminate.
My husband used yellow spray paint to cover the metal areas, and I decided to make the laminate into a chalkboard surface. We primed the top with spray paint primer.
Then, my daughter and I took turns painting the top with aqua chalkboard paint. I mixed up some homemade chalk paint and covered the very stained and worn wood areas.
For the finishing touch, I added grain sack striping on the chair. Now, it looks more like a little girl's desk, and my daughter uses it every day!
