If I were you, I would call a professional. Rodents reproduce so quickly and you have no idea how many pregnant rats are there.
Yes, bring in the pro's and let them go to work, in the meantime, do as much as you can to keep the population down as they breed rapidly. No source of food, destroy their nests if possible. Have you tried sticky cardboard traps?
