Solid wood chairs are the perfect way to add additional seating in any room whether used as a seat to put on your shoes at the front door, a spot in front of you computer desk, in a spare room for company to hang their clothes or in a dining room for another spot at the table.Solid wood chairs are so worth updating to be in these spots and many more.Pop over to my blog for more free home decor and furniture tutorials.
I picked up this solid wood vintage chair at a garage sale. It has been painted over the original medium stained finish in a thick glossy black that was now chipping off and looked very "yuck".
The paint job was not as careful as I strive for nor was it actually all painted, see the underside rungs. I used a razor blade to remove any thick drip marks after a good scrub with warm water, soap and TSP.
Then using my Dewalt orbital power sander and 80-120 grit sandpaper I got busy sanding the paint down to a smooth surface. It was then wiped clean once again

I chose milk paint in oyster white from Old Fashioned Milk Paint. Three coats were brushed on. Once dry it was sponge sanded smooth and the edges were distressed as well.

The milk paint crackled for the perfect aged finish.

To seal the milk paint, Daddy Vans clear wax was hand rubbed into it all then black wax into the detailed crevice areas as well as catching in the crackled areas to give more dimension.
Isn't it pretty?
The milk paint is the perfect look for this vintage chair don't you think?

The instructions for this project are completely outlined in the name of the project. Thank you for wasting my time by exercising your right to being redundant.

Sorry Karen you felt my title wasted your time, it was only meant to be a catchy homage to a famous song in relation to the chair makeover.

I would love to hear what you think the title should be?
