How to use everyday things to give Christmas decor more height?

I have a wall of built-in bookcases in my den. Many of the Christmas decorations I have (small Christmas houses, snow globes, Christmas figures, candles, etc.) are similar in height. My budget is stretched. Any suggestions on things I have around the house I can use to elevate some of the decorations to give more interest (less monotony) to my display? Thank you!

Judy: I use stacked books to elevate lamps and stuff!

  • Small baskets, tree slices, stacked books (spine or pages showing from front), smaller old drawers (handle side showing), pots, wine glass turned upside down and stack something on top, cake stands, stacked white dishes, faux plants, etc. Hope this helps!!

How about wrapping some different size boxes with festive paper - and put them under your decorations? :)

Judy....use books or pieces of cut wood, small tins, anything that will raise the items. You can then cover with a sheet and add your snow. Good luck

I never thought about cut wood. We have a fallen tree limb in the back yard waiting for my husband to cut in pieces to haul it away, I'll have him cut some pieces for me. Great idea!

  • I wrap books in white butcher paper to highlight the item on top, or in left over holiday wrapping paper for more added color. I use every cake stand I own! Even an upside down bowl will work. Just walk around your house and see what you can repurpose for the season. Cookie tins that you can spray paint. Little boxes you can wrap, etc.

  • I love using books to stack things. Especially old ones. You could also wrap up empty boxes and make them look like part of the decor.

    Hi Judy.

Use boxes of different heights and cover them with a suitable covering that will drape. Then st your buildings on top of these to give a pleasing look!
