Hi Lisa! If you are looking to paint oak cabinets here is a tutorial with no sanding or priming! :)
Here's a post that might help - https://www.hometalk.com/38173249/outdated-to-outstanding-golden-oak-cabinets
The easiest method is to paint. To restain, you have to sand off the entire existing finish down to bare wood before applying stain.
Give them a good wash down and apply a clear Polyurethane varnish.
I did my kitchen, by using a cleaner degreaser on the doors. Rinsed off well, let dry. Then I very lightly sanded the doors. Cleaned off all the dust. Got minwax to match my finish. Then when that dry, I used polyacrylic.
Hi! I lightly sanded my cabinets by hand with sandpaper. I then cleaned my cabinets with Krud Krutter, applied a coat of primer and then painted with milk paint by General Finishes. You can see my tutorial and all the materials I used to here: https://momhomeguide.com/my-painted-kitchen-cabinets-a-year-later/ Good luck with your project! I loved how my cabinets turned out.
