Hi ! I used advance paint by Benjamin Moore and their primer ! I had Formica butcher block , going in the wrong direction !!! I had 1970's oak cabinets that I covered the from inset with beadboard , then painted with this brand paint . Then I took my kitchen makeover a step further by painting my countertops ! I first used a de greased by Krud Kutter , then lightly scuffed them with a sanding sponge . Wild up all the dust !!!!!!! Then I used one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint . I used a small town roller to apply both . You can us see my step by step tutorial on this site,

called New kitchen on a budget . Good luck !!!

Hi Barbara, I have done this before and it turned out great! I purchased some clear cutting boards to place on it so I had a place to set hot pots

Lightly sand to rough the countertop up

Go to your paint store, tell them what you are painting, they will pick the proper paint and primer for you, you can even get the primer tinted for a better coverage

Once you have sanded, clean with TSP, then rinse and dry thoroughly,

Apply your primer coat, let it dry according to the instructions

Once the primer coat is dry, apply your paint coat, I would apply 2 or 3 as it will be stronger and thicker

Once your coats dry, you can apply a matte clear coat, either by spry or roll on, keep a small container of it under your sink for touch ups, I had my counters like this for 12 years, until I could afford new ones.

I used a few uncolored glass cutting boards for protection. It held up very well. And only costs you the prices of the materials.

    Good luck!

  • I cleaned it well, then primed it and painted it. Seal it with several coats of polycrylic. I've also used the Rustoleum kit and my primer method worked better.

Keep in mind that it doesn't look perfect forever, but it should get you through a few years until you can properly replace it.

Use gentle cleaners and sponges and it should last even longer.
