I need to.insulate the stair going into the attic
The door or the stair?
Doors need gaskets or weather stripping.
Do you have pull down stairs? Sheet foam insulation will help and get you a R-5 typically.
This link should help you out:
Hi ! You can put foam weather stripping around the edge of the lip of the door hatch.
Hi Kathy, hope these help you
For the actual door I would use sheet foam, it is an excellent insulator and for the area around the door, weather stripping, it comes in a variety of widths. Both if these are available at diy stores.
Depends on how much access you want to your attic in the cold weather. We use our attic a lot so I would hang a curtain on rings just behind the door to the stairs and maybe make it too long. I used to know a woman who had a very drafty house and she did as Redcat says and used foam insulation in her windows. She fastened little loops of fabric to use to pull them out of the windows during the day.
Hi Kathy: What I used on mine is that insulation called Refletix. It comes in a roll and is really easy to use as it's flexible! You can nail or staple it, use it doubled or single and it's like - oh heck, here's Home Depot's site. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Reach-Barrier-2-ft-x-10-ft-Double-Reflective-Insulation-Air-Roll-with-Double-Bubble-DD24010/204476650?MERCH=REC-_-rv_homepage_rr-_-NA-_-204476650-_-N
Most home improvement stores carry it.
