What is your surface (tile, vinyl, etc.)?

Try a slurry of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Scrub with a stiff brush.

Hi this is Peggy. Sorry you burned your floor with your steam mop. I don't really see the burn mark, but I hope this helps. How do you clean a burnt floor?

    Surface Scorch Marks

    1. Sand the scorch mark lightly, going with the grain, to remove the topmost layer of charred wood.
    2. Rub mineral oil over the scorch mark with a soft pad and then scrub the mark with fine steel wool, going with the grain. ...
    3. Scrape any remaining burn marks with a utility knife.

Start gently with baking soda and hydrogen preoxide, it maybe enough to bleach it out.

I would make a paste with baking soda, vinegar and dish soap. Apply to the mark and let sit for a while and then try cleaning with a brush. I use this mixture all the time for stains but have watch it carefully because it does bleach things.

I don’t think it’s burn marks it yellowed from the heat

Burned or heat/yellowed, it’s chemically changed into the runner itself.

This requires a “donor piece” and if you don’t have one that’s this old, then evaluate where you can pull one up and replace this.

I’ve had to do this with sheet vinyl.

A brand new one will not be the same color, as all resilient flooring naturally ages in-place, although it’s much more subtle than e can notice.

Has a mat sat on top of this place, as it looks like the mark a heat has been due to constant pressure on the area from the mat above. Maybe try using Barkeepers friend and a little water to reduce the stain colour. Repeat. Place something under the mat, or change it for another that doesn't have dark rubber backing!
