DIY Christmas Decoration With Tree Branches

This year we have gone to town to come up with a variety of DIY Christmas decorations with tree branches. There is something so satisfying about making decorations using the materials to hand, in particular, tree branches saved from autumn prunings. The cost is minimal, you are saving resources by not buying new, the materials are plentiful…. there’s no need for me to go on!

You will need pieces of wood to create the frame for your branches – we have used a pallet, dissembling it in order to use the wood pieces.

Gather up a selection of tree branches, arrange them to see what works visually.

Drill into the base of your decoration, slot your branches into these drilled holes.

Next its time to build a frame - the base of the frame has two pieces like this. Cut pieces of wood to the right length, our finished frame measures 26 by 21", you may wish to vary the size dependant upon your tree branches.

We have used corner braces to secure the corners (my husband is hoping for a nail gun for Christmas!).

Lastly place a piece of wood across the front to finish your frame, then add Christmas lights. You can find more details in my blog post DIY Christmas Decorations with Tree Branches
