I’m going to be honest; this little DIY Christmas ornament was a big experiment. I’m not going to say it the prettiest ornament I’ve ever created, but I think the idea behind it is pretty cool. As a matter of fact, now that I’ve created one solar powered DIY Christmas ornament, I have a few more ideas for other solar powered ornaments. For today though, I’m going to share about my solar powered ornament experiment with dollar store supplies.

LIKE MOST OF MY DIY ORNAMENTS, THIS ONE CAME MAINLY FROM DOLLAR STORE SUPPLIES.

Look how cute they are! The sky is the limit with ideas about using the “solar powered” part (in the “hat”).

HOW TO CREATE A DIY SOLAR POWERED CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT;

The key here is to find a solar powered stake that has an “easily removable” solar powered part. This was the beauty of the particular stake I used.

  1. Paint or decorate your “ornament.”
  2. Hot glue the solar powered part to your DIY ornament
  3. Let it sit in the sun
  4. Wait until it gets dark to see it glow and enjoy!

A few things to note;

If you are painting a surface like glass or something that paint struggles to stick to, I would suggest using spray paint. This was a rookie mistake on my part.

Like I said before, it’s not the prettiest ornament I’ve ever created. But guys!! It glows in the dark!!

Even though it might look like a jack o lantern at night, I’ve still given you some ideas right?

My kids joke about how it looks like Christmas during the day and Halloween at night! LOL, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not!

I only created one of these DIY Christmas ornaments, but just imagine an outdoor tree with numerous of these ornaments!

Christmas by day, Halloween by night right?

THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FAMILY FRIENDLY HOLIDAY CRAFT.

Since I only created one of these DIY holiday ornaments, I’ve decided to leave it outside as a centerpiece on our back porch table.

How easy was that? I hope I've inspired you to create something!
