    HI Scott,

Without hesitation your friend needs to bring in the pro's. Bed bugs are nothing to mess with and try a home made remedy. They spread like crazy, not just in the house, but are spread by people and items infested with them or their eggs.

That being said...the pro's have the chemicals, training, equipment, technology, and offer a warranty. Most home owners/renters are unskilled in treating bed bugs and I'd bet your friend is no exception, he does something else for a living. The pro's know where to look, treat, and keep coming back until the infestation is done with.

Do more than urge him to get the pro's in and fast...they do this for a living!

Burn everything and move. Got bit by one at a hotel near the Indianapolis airport. "Breakfast lunch and dinner" itched for 6 months! Turns out DDT wasn't as bad as they made it out to be. The birth defects, cancers, etc were all proven false, a bunch of smokers got lung cancer in areas that had heavier use, which also included areas that relied heavily on wood burning stoves. Good luck!

A professional is the best way but I know a lot of people cannot afford that so get a gallon of ecoraider for bedbugs and the one gallon sprayer. It is safe for pets and humans but not plants.

  • Hi Scott - Despite always preferring the all-natural method, everything I've read says it's best to go with the professionals for abatement. After the bed bugs are eliminated, this article is how to clean a mattress in 5 easy steps. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

Cinnamon is supposed to get rid of them. Hope I never have to find out if it works. Good luck.

Hi Scott, sorry about your friend. From what I have read, heat is the only thing that will kill bedbugs (other than chemicals). Be careful, they travel on you.

A tip you can locate them using a black light flashlight, cause I sometimes inspect clients mattresses to see if they are infected. They have them on Amazon for $10.

After treating, put the mattress in a zippered bug-proof mattress bag. You can also put these covers on your pillows. I use these covers as they are also good for dust mites that cause allergies.
