Make a paste of baking soda and dawn dish washing soap and use hot soapy water.
Unplug your deep fryer and let cool completely. Then drain the oil. Take the basket out and put it in the sink. Using a bucket of warm water, dish soap, and a soft sponge, clean the fryer inside and outside. Also clean the heating element, lid, basket, and basket handle at this time. Rinse these items and dry them completely. Put the fryer back together.

I cleaned mine with a thick mixture of blue Dawn and water. If that doesn't work, try a food safe degreaser.
