Calcium carbonate is the best of all chalk paint recipes
Mix 1/3 cup of Plaster of Paris and 1/3 cup of cool water; stir until completely smooth. Mix that with 1 cup of latex paint and stir thoroughly. This will make enough chalk-finish paint for one coat on a six-drawer dresser. Chalk-finish paint shouldn't be stored and reused.
I love the plaster or paris recipe for just one or two projects. But the paint dries out quickly, so you can't store it. I paint furniture all the time with the calcium carbonate powder recipe and flat latex paint.

I used 1/2 c baking soda in a gallon or semi-gloss Kitchen & Bath paint and got good results.
