My doorless kitchen shelves are painted a pretty dark green. All colors look good against it, white, blue and white, green and white etc.

Hi ! I had ugly dated oak cabinets with scalloped insets , ugh ... I hated them but didn't have the money to replace them . I did a lot of research on types of paint to use . I really didn't want to have to sand and prime them first . I came down to 2 options one was chalk paint and was sealed or the second was advance paint by Benjamin Moore . My sister did the chalk paint method and I used advance paint !

both of our kitchen cabinets came out great !!! And both have held up well over the past 3 years . My method had one less step , by not needing the sealing wax step .

I also cut beadboard to cover the scalloped inset area and glued it down before painting them . When I did paint , I used 2 coats of paint . You can see my whole process on the tutorial I posted on this site called New Kitchen on a budget .

Hi ! Here are my cabinets before , during and after...also I didn't mention it before in my reply , but I also painted the inside of the cabinet doors with chalkboard paint a place to keep lists and appointments!

Use Contact Paper. Trust me on this: Paint will leave an odor that gets in your food for months.
