How can I refresh a long faux fur pillow?

You could try cutting them out if it won't ruin the rest of the look of the pillow

Use a wire paddle style dog brush using short rapid strokes to detangle.

Maybe give it a small haircut? I have a couple of throws like this that smell like pee and I need to figure out how to clean them!

Children’s hair detangler might work.

I use a wire cat brush for all my faux fur, including clothes. It works GREAT. If it's really matted add a little water and some hair conditioner to soften, then brush and rinse a little. Works great!

If you aren't "in love" with it, toss it. You'll never get it just right as it's like dog fur and once matted all you can do is cut it out. Replace it even if you get a faux fur throw and quickly stitch it into a pillow. I can't sew and even I can do that lol!

If you do love it, I'd cut the entire thing down to shorter strands. Sprinkle generously with baking powder and let sit for awhile and shake it out well. This will at least absorb some old odors. For me, I actually attempt to wash the cover because it looks kind of "euwww" like my matted dog. I'd fill the tub with hot water and dissolve OxyClean in it. Carefully dunk the cover in with the "fur" pointed down into the water to minimize further matting. Rinse likewise and I guess just let it drip dry for a few days outside. Good luck!

Fill a large sink, container or tub with cold water. Add a gentle liquid laundry detergent, like Tide Gentle, or even Dreft or other 'baby' laundry detergent, and mix well. If the cover is removable, do so and put the cover in the soapy water. If not, or if the whole thing needs a good 'bath,' then place the entire pillow in the water. Gently squeeze and release the item in the soapy water many times, being certain to saturate the entire thing. Run your fingers through the long strands to try to separate them some, but don't pull harshly as you might pull out too many strands leaving bare spots. When you feel it's cleaned, drain/empty the soapy water and rinse thoroughly by running cold water over it and gently squeeze until little or no soap remains. Refill sink/tub/container with cold water, adding hair conditioner. White Vinegar is a prime choice, and yes, the vinegar smell will disappear as the pillow (cover) dries. Vinegar is pure, simple and less expensive and I use it in my hair as well. Great for particular odors, too, as it works well on pet smells (urine, etc.). Although I don't use it on my hair, Pantene also works well for this type of detangling, but I prefer the white vinegar. Once dry, the item smells clean with no lingering fragrance. Gently comb tangles out using a wide, large tooth comb with rounded ends (not pointed, sharp tooth ends), or a pick (as is used for afro hair styles). Start at the ends and work your way up to the 'roots' attached to the fabric. I have used this method on faux fur rugs and it works well. Good luck!

I took a brush and took all of the cover of and it worked you put it in the washer use the brush then put it on the dryer the brushe it or just use a pressure washer

Hi Dawn: What I did to mine was simply to brush it with a wide toothed brush. Just do small sections at a time. I watched tv while doing mine, as it takes a while :) Don't tug and pull, just be gentle, as if you were brushing a pet.
